Steps to switching supplier
How do I switch to a competitive energy supplier?
There are four steps to choosing an energy supplier. Follow the link below for a list of competitive energy suppliers registered to do business in New Hampshire.
- Visit the suppliers’ websites for information about the supplier and the products offered. Contact those suppliers that you are interested in, using the questions below to help understand what you would be agreeing to.
- Compare the offers. Look at your electric bills to determine what portion is for delivery and what portion is for the electricity you use. Write down the number of kilowatt hours (kWh) you use and the kilowatt hour price for energy shown on your bill. These are the numbers you will use to compare offers from competitive energy suppliers. Decide what is important to you when selecting a competitive energy supplier and determine what your level of risk is. Are you willing to pay more in some months than in others? Do you want the same fixed price every month? How long do you want to commit? Are you interested in renewable energy options?
- Read and understand the terms and conditions of service. Be sure you carefully read and understand all of the terms and conditions of your supply contract. The supplier should be able to answer any questions you may have.
- Make a choice. Once you’ve decided which supplier you want to choose, call that supplier to sign up or visit their website to enroll online. The supplier will contact your local electric utility for you.
